Blessing of Pets Day
Prayer of Basil the Great (d.375)

O, God enlarge within us the sense of fellowship with all living things; with our brothers, the animals, to whom youy gave the Earth as their home in common with us. We remember with shame that in the past we have exercised the high dominion of man with ruthless cruelty, so that the voice of the earth which should have gone up to you in song has been a groan of travail. May we realise that they live nor for us alone but for themselves and for you and that they love the sweetness of life.

So many horse owners expressed interest that a blessing of Horses took place on 10 August.

Visit to Harvington Hall

A party of about thirty went by coach on Saturday 6 September. Situated near Kidderminster, the hall is a moated manor house dating from 1580.It contains the finest series of priest holes anywhere in the country. For further details refer to www.harvingtonhall.com

The attraction for us is that the hiding places are reputedly the work of Nicholas Owen. How do we know that he worked here? He left no initials or conventional markings. In this part of the world the H.Q. of the network of safe houses built up by Fr. Garnet S.J. was Hindlip House. It was Owen who made them safe. He was arrested at Hindlip, with Fr Garnet, in the hue and cry that followed the Gunpowder Plot. The hiding places did not fail. Those in hiding were starved out. Although Hindlip was demolished in 1814 descriptions of the hides there show a striking similarity to those that survive at Harvington. That is unlikely to be an accident !

Autumn Fair

This was a gratifying occasion since we took over £1000. As a parish we do not play in the Premier League but we reckon we are well up in our own division.

Heavenly Father, bless and protect all things that have breath. Guard them from all evil and let them sleep in peace. Hear our humble prayer for the horses, our friends, your creatures. We pray for all that are sick, especially any that may be here, and for all that are suffering in any way; for the overworked, the underfed or ill-treated, and for those that must be put to death. for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion, gentle hands and kindly words. Make us true friends to all animals and worthy followers of our merciful Saviour, Jesus Christ Our Lord.
